Jimmy Buffett comes to Chicago

The singer song writer, Jimmy Buffett, has more up his sleeve than just his typical island tunes.  Buffett is one of the producers of the musical “Big Fish” showing in Chicago.

Buffett came to watch the master piece he assisted in creating on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.  Buffett was seen at the Oriental Theatre in the Loop where the musical was having the pre-Broadway premier production.

Along with fellow producer Frank Marshall, the Holly wood producer, Buffett joined the audience before heading backstage after the curtain, according to a show representative.

The musical “Big Fish” starring Norbert Leo Butz and Kate Baldwin is based on the novel by Daniel Wallace and the 2003 movie by Tim Burton.  The musical will be in Chicago through May 5.

Joliet Runners Keep Boston Marathon Victims in Mind

This morning, Joliet Area runners took advantage of beautiful sunny weather and gathered at St. Joe’s Park on Theodore Street for a 5k Run/Walk fundraiser. The route winds through the Chaney Monge area of Crest Hill.

As approximately 200 runners lined up at the race’s starting line, there was a pause to remember the runners of the Boston Marathon bombing.

Crest Hill Mayor Ray Soliman held a moment of silence for Boston. Soliman reiterated a few times, that “good triumphs over evil.”

Soliman also asked the runners to run for those who were hurt in the deadly blasts. “When you cross that plate today, you’re giving strength and hope to every individual,” Soliman said. “And when you run today, you remember that good will always triumph over evil.”

Although Boston is thousands of miles away from Joliet, the plight of those injured is felt in hearts in our area and undoubtedly across the country.

Man bites off half of ear

After a domestic fight on Friday a southwest suburban man is accused of biting off a piece of another man’s ear off, according to authorities.

In a statement from the Cook County sheriff’s office, Richard Vody, 28, was charged with aggravated battery and domestic battery, as well as home invasion.  Bail was set at $250,000 on Saturday, but he was able to post the required 10% and is no longer in custody.

After a call of domestic battery, emergency crews responded to a home in the 200 block of Walnut Lane in Cook County, west of Justice, at 8:45 a.m. Friday.  Officials then learned that Vody had forced his way into the home where the victim lived and during an argument, bit off about half of the victims right ear, according to the sheriffs office.

All the people involved know each other.

Vody is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
